Harvest Apple Cider

One of my favorite things about fall is apple cider. It reminds me of apple picking and pumpkins and bonfires and hay rides, which are all high up on my list of favorite fall things. I also drink a lot more tea in the fall, when the nights are cool and the dark descends earlier. A few years ago, I saw Reese Witherspoon on Ellen and she shared a southern tea recipe with half apple cider and half tea. What a brilliant idea to combine the two! Below is a similar recipe from Taste of Home with a few spices to kick it up a notch.

Harvest Apple Cider

8 whole cloves
4 cups apple cider
4 cups pineapple juice
½ cup water
1 cinnamon stick
1 individual tea bag

Place cloves on a double thickness of cheesecloth and bring up the corners to form a bag; secure a tie or string around it. Place the remaining ingredients in a 3-quart slow cooker; add the spice bag you just created. Cover and cook on low for 2 hours or until the cider reaches the desired temperature. Discard the spice bag, cinnamon stick and tea bag before serving. Yields: 2 quarts.
